Purchased by Jeanette when visiting Innsbruck, Austria. Was purchased along with St. Laurent Reserve - 2018 - Weingut Familie Auer, with the shopkeeper saying that the 2019 was supposed to be better.
That said, Falstaff gave the 2018 a 92 in their ratings in a 2020 tasting, and possibly gave it a 93 in a 2021 tasting (harder to find a link for that, but Jeanette had seen something on her phone that referenced the later tasting).
But the the 2019 got a 93 from Falstaff in a 2021 tasting from Peter Moser, with the review stating, "Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Saftig, komplex, elegante Tanninstruktur, mineralisch, Zwetschkentouch im Abgang, schokoladiger Nachhall, sicheres Potenzial.", and then another 93 in a 2022 tasting, also from Peter Moser, with the review stating, "Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, breitere Randaufhellung.
Tasting notes: April - Smells like a red wine, as previously. I feel like a broken record on that. Tastes a little bit sour, but still fairly smooth to the back of the mouth. I'm still not sure that I like this varietal, but it seems solid enough. No strong after taste, or bitterness at the back.
Jeanette - Geruch: dunkler Rotwein, holzig- rauchig.
Aroma: dark red wine, woody and smoky. Taste: berry, acidic, more astringent than the 2018 vintage but not unpleasant. The taste is round, not quite as full-bodied as the 2018 vintage, persistent acidity in the finish and a distinct barrel taste. Also a tasty red wine - not sure which vintage I like better. Everyone has advantages and disadvantages.
Megan - It's less tart, and a little more spicy, and that's good. I like this one better than the 2018. I'm such a good wine person (Said after finding out that this one is supposed to be better than the 2018 wine).
Gavin - Agrees that it's slightly spicier. Subtly sweet. Spicy, subtly sweet does seem to be accurate.
