Part of the Geile Weine 2024 Advent Calendar. Geile Weine offered two calendars, this year, which was similar to 2023 and 2022. But instead of having a choice between standard and premium, it was a choice between a calendar with 24 bottles of wine and a calendar with 12 wines and 12 bars of chocolate. Rather than be able to review half as many wines, and miss the chance of possibly having different years of the same, previously-tried wines, April chose the 24-wine calendar. Getting a chocolate calendar is tempting, of course, and this wiki has at least the beginnings of some chocolate reviews, but April realized that there's only _so_ much she wants to spend time cataloging, even if cataloging is a large part of why she likes alcohol advent calendars in the first place.
For this particular wine:
Tasting notes:
April - Smells like a dark, funky red. I was thinking Malbec, but realizing that it's a Tempranillo, it seems reasonable.
Taste was sour into unpleasant into not-that-bitter. It's probably not great that the part I like best is that it's not as bitter and unpleasant at the back of the mouth, as other wines can be, especially in the upper ranges for alcohol percentage.
I'm not sure if this is because of wine type, or having eaten pancakes an hour before, or whatever, but this is clearly going toward the bottom. It's _still_ not watery, though, which was a common complaint in previous years, and utterly absent this year, so that's positive. I'm beginning to question if I'm the common denominator on that, but the wines are almost entirely different from previous years.
I think I'll put it above 4. I think wine 5 was likely more interesting, so that's probably the cap for my experience with this particular tasting.
So, 8, 10, 12, 11, 2, 1, 3, 6, 13, 9, 5, 15, 4, 7 is the current order.
Aroma: sour red grapes Taste: initially bitter-sweet. Then strongly astringent, sour. A dry red wine with little that is special apart from the obviously abundant tannins. It is quite "smooth" without any special characteristics and not my favorite.
