Purchased while wine tasting on May 27th, 2018 along with Joanne and Rico.

Opened July 21st while visiting Nicole and Julia in Oregon. Paired with a meal of roasted chicken, biscuits, oven potatoes, a fancy salad, and rhubarb brownies for dessert.

Alcohol - 15.3%

"Far Away Block" - Not sure what that means, but it says it on the front of the bottle.

See the [Google doc] for pictures from the trip.

Tasting notes:

2014 estate Chardonnay - "tasted like a white wine"

2013 pinot noir - brown, but good enough

2014 pinot noir - Megan liked, but possibly more drunk. April thought it was about as sour as the mid pinot at the last place

2014 pinot noir arena block - liked by all, but April wasn't convinced it was all that much better, if at all

From the wine list:

Our Far Away Block produces elegant fruit from a combination of 667, 777 and Pommard clones, grafted onto 30 year old Chardonnay rootstock. The nose here is subtle, just a hint of cherry, belying what the glass holds. On the palate those flavors explode. Huge cherry and blueberry fruit leap out at you, and there are earthy mocha undertones to round out this blockbuster. 247 cases produced. $49

From the bottle:

Pinot Noir No 2

Santa Cruz Mountains

Winemaking in the Santa Cruz Mountains originates back to the 1850s when loggers cleared patches of the redwood forest leaving bare land ideal for fruit orchards and vineyards. One place in particular was Wrights Station, a once bustling stop for the South Pacific Coast Railroad that ran from Alameda to Santa Cruz. Though all that remains today is a haunting tunnel opening, Wrights Station Vineyard & Winery carries on the legacy by making hand-crafted Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays above where the town once stood. Come stop for a taste and stay for a glass.
